Crochet Poncho & Hat Pattern

Cute Poncho & Hat

This little poncho and hat has been a popular little project that I shared on Craftsy as Docha and have had many request for the pattern and so, here it is ;)  Enjoy!

Poncho directions are for size 1 ~2 years; changes for size 3 ~4 years are in parentheses. Hat directions are for size Small; changes for sizes Medium and Large are in parentheses.

You will need approximately 14 ounces Soft Baby yarn by Red Heart ~ crochet hook: 6.5mm (U.S. 10.5)

Gauges: 11 sts = 4"; 18 rows = 11" in pat with 2 strands.

Poncho ~ Neck Circumference = 18 (20) " Length from neck to front center point = 15 (17) "
Hat circumference = 16 (17, 18) "

Note: Work with 2 strands held together as one throughout.

Poncho

Back and Front: (Alike): ch 32.

Row 1: (right side) Sc in 2nd ch from hook and each ch across: turn ~ 31 sc.

Row 2:  Ch 3, skip[ first 3 sc, (3 dc in next sc, skip 2 sc) 4 times, (3 dc, ch 3, 3 dc) all in next sc, (skip 2 sc, 3 dc in next sc) 4 times, skip 2 sc, dec in last sc: turn.

Row 3: Ch 3, 2 dc in sp between dc and first 3 ~ dc group, * 3 dc between next two 3 ~ dc groups **: rep from * to center ch ~3 sp: (3 dc, ch 3, 3 dc) all in center ch~3 sp: rep from * to beg ch~3, end at **; 2 dc between 3~dc group and ch~3, dc in top of ch~3: turn.

Row 4: Ch 3, skip first 3 dc, * 3 dc between next two 3~dc groups **; rep from * to center ch~3 sp; (3 dc, ch 3, 3 dc) all in center ch~3 sp: rep from * to last 3 sts, end at **; skip next 2 dc, dc in top of ch~3; turn.

Rep Rows 3 and 4 5 (7) more times, then rep row 3 once more. Fasten off.

Finishing: Sew front and back tog along sides.

Lower Edging: With wrong side facing, attach contrast yarn at side seam: ch 1, sc in seam, * skip 3 dc, 7 dc between next two 2~dc roups, skip 3 dc, scbetween next two 3 dc groups **; rep from * to center ch~3 sp; (7 dc, sc) all in center ch~3 sp; rep from * to next seam, end at **, then rep from*across; join with a sl st to first sc. Fasten off.

Neck Edging: With right side facing, attach contrasting yarn at side seam at neck; ch 1, work 54 (60) sc around neck; join with a sl st to first sc, turn and continue for 5 more rows. Sl to first sc and fasten off.

Flower: With contrasting color of yarn, ch 3; join with a sl st in first ch to form a ring.

Round 1: Ch 1, 10 sc in ring: join with a sl st in first sc.

Round 2: Ch 1, *(sc, dc, tr) all in next sc, (tr, dc,sc) all in next sc; rep from * around; join. Fasten off.

Attach flower at left side neck edge.

Hat:

Ch 3; join with a sl st in first ch to form a ring.

Round 1: Ch 1, 8 sc in ring; join with a sl st in first sc.

Round 2: ch 1, 2 sc in each sc around ; join ~ 16 sc.

Round 3: ch 1, (sc in sc, 2 sc in next sc) 8 times; join ~ 24 sc.

Round 4: Ch 1, (sc in 2 sc, 2 sc in next sc) 8 times; join ~ 32 sc.

Round 5: Ch 1, (sc in 3 sc, 2 sc in next sc) 8 times; join ~ 40 sc.

Round 6: Ch 1, (sc in 4 sc, 2 sc in next sc) 8 times; join ~ 48 sc.

Sizes (Medium, Large ) Only: Ch 1, (sc in (15, 7) sc, 2 sc in next sc) (3, 6) times; join ~(51-54) sc.

All sizes ~ Next 5 (5,6) rounds: Ch 1, sc in each sc around for 14 (19, 19) more rounds. Fasten off.

Flower: Make flower as for Poncho. Attach to left side of Hat.

Now, I hope I have not made any typing mistakes, as far as I can tell, it's o.k. and I certainly hope that I do not get in any trouble passing this pattern on as it is not my own pattern. I purchased the leaflet some time ago and so far I have not seen it again.
